Time for a change.

Pregnant me teaching a Mom and Tot class.

I am changing the name of my blog. If you haven’t already noticed, My Hole in the Head is now The Dancing Mommy

I needed a change to kick me in the ass and keep up with blogging. I wanted a name for my blog and my YouTube channel that gave a clue to what this is all about.

I started out writing this blog and doing videos as a way to try and organize my life. Do little organizational projects and blog/vlog about them. Well, that didn’t really pan out. I’m still trying to be organized but I’m not good at keeping things up. As obvious by the length of time between blog posts.

My Hole in the Head was a name I put on this blog because I was so busy I needed something else to do like “a hole in the head”.

I really think tIMG_4066he new name will help me be a little more focused on what I’m about these days. My kids, and all things mommy related. I have a 4 1/2 year old boy and a 14 month old girl.
My love of finding a good bargain. It could be sales or thrift shopping, the hunt for a good deal is the best part. And dance. I am after all a dance teacher and choreographer, I can’t leave that out.

Also, the balance of running a business, teaching classes, being a stay at home mom (I know that doesn’t really make sense. I’m home with the kids in the day, and teach in the evenings), being a choreographer, and keeping up general house stuff IS a dance it’s self.

That’s it, The Dancing Mommy.  Now other things just might creep in, but that’s the general idea.

Life Less Organized

That should be the title of my autobiography, my life less organized. I want to be organized, I long to be organized, I have to soul of an organized person, but alas, I am not.

I’ve spent the past few years, since we moved into our current house, trying to make it a functional organized home. It never works. I purge things I don’t use, get rid of clothes that don’t fit, I clean out and organize different areas of my house just for it to go back to the way it was within a week.

I can’t stick to keeping an organized home. That’s my issue. I can get organized, the upkeep seems to be my downfall. I actually enjoy the process of organizing something. My closet, my desk, even planning and organizing for a trip. It’s fun. But why on earth can’t I keep it up?!? I need organizational Viagra. When it comes to keeping things tidy and in the proper place I just go limp.

Sometimes I think that a new organizational system or plan will help, nope. Same pile of clothes on the chair, same Tupperware avalanche from the cupboard within days of implementing my “new system”.

So this is my cry for help. I need something to help me organize and stay organized for longer than a few days. Enter Marie Kondo, not actually her, but that would be cool. I’ll try anything to actually be able to see what the surface of my dresser looks like. I read the book, actually listened to the audio book, but same thing.

I have attempted a few small things, my panties drawer first, (I know some people hate that word, which is the reason I had to use it..) I dumped the whole drawer out onto my bed and started chucking. Basically it was pairs that don’t fit right therefore never wear. And done. That was easy.

So I moved onto the other drawers, one by one. But that’s the wrong way to do it right? I was supposed to dump all clothing in one giant pile on the floor. That’s the point! The thing about that is, I do not have a surface in my home big enough to do that. if I took all my clothes, I mean everything, I would have to use my backyard to make one pile. And that ain’t happening anytime soon. As there is still WW1 style trenches in the snow out there.

To tell you the truth I can’t see myself holding every piece and seeing if it sparks joy, or thanking a piece “for its service” before saying goodbye. So I’m back to square one. Wasting time, organizing a small part of my home, just for it to look the same or worse in less than a week.

Have you Marie Kondoed anything? Let me know.

And I’m off!

Ok, I’m Vlog Obsessed.

Now that it’s the week of American thanksgiving, it’s kinda the start of the Christmas season. Even though we in Canada had thanksgiving over a month ago, we still acknowledge Black Friday etc.

Lately I’ve been watching Pretty Neat Living on YouTube. Not just the current videos, but I’ve been binge watching her Vlogidays videos from 2012 on. She used to have three YouTube channels, Now she has combined them into one, very smart idea I think. Her Vlogs were all on her My Housewife Life channel, and I find them so addictive.

Her name is Jennifer Ross and she lives in Chicago with her husband Don, her baby girl Charlotte and her dog Winnie. They seem to be very well off which is why I think I enjoy watching so much. I love seeing her beautiful, put together house, amazing shopping hauls and the incredible restaurants they go to.

Now, these vlogs were from before she had baby Charlotte. She doesn’t vlog anymore which is too bad. I think something may have happened for her to give it up, but I don’t know.

Anyway, I enjoy watching their life. Maybe I’m a bit jealous of it, but whatever. It was her who inspired me to start a YouTube channel of my own. I haven’t posted anything for a very long time as my computer was being a shit and I also don’t have the time.

I would love to do what she does but for now I’m enjoying getting into the holiday spirit by watching Jenn and her peeps have (a very organized) thanksgiving and Christmas.
And I’m off.

Very Last Minute Halloween Costumes

So it’s Halloween night and the kids are in their costumes all ready to go trick or treating and they look at you and say, “Mommy, where’s your costume?”  Crap! They want me in a costume too! You’re about to head out the door and you need a costume!

Here are some costumes that you can literally pull out of your closet. No making anything or intricate make up. My lovely friend Jessicah helped me out with this. Thanks babe, I owe ya one.

Hogwarts student.

Because I’m a dork, I have the tie and the scarf. But you really could just use a solid tie. We just used a black or grey skirt, a black or grey cardigan and a white shirt. You could do tights or knee socks and black shoes. Grab a stick from the backyard for a wand and done. We actually forgot the wand for the picture, what were we thinking?!?!

50’s Housewife

Even easier. A full skirt a tight sweater or blouse, an apron, some pearls and heels. Done and done. Extra points for a martini and cigarette. Lol.

Holly Golightly-Breakfast at Tiffanys

This one is just a black dress, black heels, some black gloves, big sunglasses and pearls. Put you hair in a bun with a tiara or sparkly headband or even a rhinestone broach. Extra points for take out coffee cup and a Tiffany bag or box.

Rosie the Reviter

This one is super easy and comfortable! Just a denim shirt and jeans or even better, coveralls, a red bandana around your head and some black boots. Done. “We Can Do It”.

Cowgirl

I feel like this is the easiest. Jeans, a plaid shirt, some cowboy boots, a banana, cowboy hat and some cute braids. Done.

Gypsy

I realize not everyone is going to have a coin hip scarf in their closet, I used to be a belly dancer. A square scarf or shawl will do the trick. With a long skirt, flowy top, a head scarf and a tonne of jewelry. Done. I suggest wearing boots, I thought it looked good with bare feet. But I wasn’t going anywhere.

I hope this gives you some ideas for a no fuss, out of your closet Halloween costume. Hope you all have a great Halloween weekend.🎃

And I’m off.

Holidays!!!!!

And I’m off! Seriously. We are on the road  heading east across our great island of Newfoundland. As you may or may not have heard, we have had a hell of a busy year. Now, it’s time for a break. We are headed to my parents house on beautiful Three Island Pond in Paradise. Also known to us as “the house on the lake”.

Road trips with kids are….different. Meaning, you end up packing twice as much stuff as you really need “just in case”. For long car trip, which all of ours are, we need snacks, water, bottles, formula, DVD player, iPad, wipes-lots of wipes, pillows, blanket, etc…lets just say lots of stuff.

Then, your schedule isn’t your own. Stop so Bubs can pee, stop so I can pee, stop to feed the baby, stop for lunch, stop to change the baby. Our trip used to take 7 hours from Corner Brook to St.John’s. Now it takes about 9. That’s long for anyone, but on a four year old it’s sheer torture.

I gave Mr Bubbers a gravol before we left as he is susceptible to car sickness, he was stoned for the first 2-3 hours.
Making all our stops things were going along pretty good. Baby was sleeping a lot and Bubs was watching a movie.

With the usual “I can’t take this anymore” craziness in the last hour, we made it, 9 hours after we left home.  And it was all worth it.

Now, where’s my wine?

And I’m off.

Packing for a last minute overnight trip with 2 kids.

We just decided to go out of town to visit family tomorrow for an overnight, so I thought I’d do a quick little post about what I’m packing.

The thing is with packing for small kids is whether you are going away for a night or a week, you’re going to have stuff. Multiple outfits for the kids because they are messy, multiple outfits for you because they are messy. And more often than not, they get messy on you. Not to mention the toys they want to bring, the distractions, the snacks, the diapers etc.

This is what clothes I packed.

For Baby V….

1. Onesie and pants to wear in the car.

2. Back up onesie and pants.

3. Romper

4. White cardigan

5. Packing cube (I love these)

6. Footless sleepers (if it warmish)

7. Footed sleepers (if it’s coolish)

8. Bathing suit and cover up (who knows, it’s summer)

10. Pink hoodie.

For Mr.Bubbers…

1. Swim trunks

2. Two pairs of pants

3. Packing cube

4. Two t shirts

5. Jammies

6. Hoodie

7. Rain jacket

8. Two pairs of shorts

For me…

2. Underwear (going to wear the same bra)

3. Sleepwear

6. Tankini

That’s it for clothes. S packed for himself so I don’t have pics of his stuff. I know we won’t need it all but with the weather here in Newfoundland we could need shorts and a parka in the same weekend. Hope this helps if you needed some ideas.

And I’m off!

What’s in my Diaper bag “Everything Bag”
